Beyond a Joke

These refs are kidding.
The try awarded to Farah before half time in the Friday night defies common sense.
Anyone watching the game would've thought that Marshall was tackled. Why does it matter whether his arm hit the ground or not, his momentum was stopped and his whole body except one arm were on the ground, and he was wrapped up by the defender. If thats not a pass off the ground I'm Andrew Johns.
How does that not constitute a tackle? Common sense has completely left the area of rugby league officiating. The whole replay system is a farce- watching 18 replays to make a decision is ridiculous.
The system should be changed to be more like the NFL system- make the ref on the ground make a call, and if there is doubt, the replay official has 90 seconds and/or 5 replays to find irrefutable evidence to overturn the decision on the field. No coaching challenges like in the NFL, but the refs should be making the decision and then unless it was a blatant mistake visible in a couple of replays, the call stands.
The current system is reaping too many nonsense calls and must be changed immediately.

  1. I couldnt agree more about changing the system. I for one am losing the will to watch the game because of the ludicrous decisions by the video refs. It is getting to the point that I turned the game off on friday night after that decision. It sours your viewing of the game. Let the players play and the let the onfield ref/refs make the call.
Your change sounds better than any bloody Bunker the pins heads at the NRL are talking about.

  2. the bunker!
what a ludicrous idea- for those who didnt see it in the sunday tele, this seems to involve a "bunker" at NRL HQ staffed by big wigs who will be wired to the refs but not the video refs, and who can overrule the video refs decision.
Which begs the question- why have the video ref in the first place?- just have the bunker then if they can watch it and overrule everything.
somethng needs to be done but this bunker idea seems insane

  3. Put all the video refs in the "Bunker" then blow the bunker up I say. Put me as video ref I am sure I could do a better job than these idiots. Why isnt the head of the referees in charge of the video refereeing? Surely he knows all the rules and if just 1 person was in charge of all video ref decisions then there wouldnt be any inconsistencies.

  4. What about the new "Big Brother style" system coming in ??
"The system is based on a successful model used in the National Hockey League in the United States and Canada that is said to have an astonishing success rate of 99.2 per cent."
Longer delays or the solution ?

  5. Id like to see a study done in regards to referee onfield opinion in regards to tries that are sent up to the video referee. I think if the refs went with their insincts in alot of these cases the % of correct calls would be as high, if not better than the % of correct calls made by the video referee. Im a fan of the video ref system in that it is to get the decision correct, however when the refs go over everything with a fine tooth comb it is a joke.
