I watched it live (back when the Lappo would fill up for a big fight)and can remember the absolute disbelief of everyone at the pub.
It's remarkable that the ref didn't stop the fight after the first bite i mean FFS was he expecting mike to calm down after a warning?
I watched the Tyson doco recently and he kind of believably explained the reason for his losing it- holyfield repeatedly headbutted him throughout both of their fights and never got docked a point.
Still, pretty big step up from a headbutt to biting off a f%cking ear. Once is nuts but doing it a second is a very bold statement of insanity indeed.
Also notable moment insanity that day was one Rockape challenging me and my brother to a fight because we didn't like his brother at school. At least he didn't shoot at us like he did ManPig.
I think Tyson biting off his ear was for two reasons. 1. The dude is insane and should be locked up, I cant help but think the fact he lost his young child last week was a stroke of karma. 2. He wanted the publicity and what are we doing now? Talking about it, it has etched Tyson into sporting history whether it be for the right or wrong reasons is debatable.
I have a similar story me and my brother used to get chased by a rotwieller named 'Tyson' we were both knee high to a grass hopper and the dog used to be roped to a peg on the front lawn of a bloke up the street. We used to run past the dog to get it to chase us and when the rope ran out the dog would have its head ripped off. It was funny until the day the rope ripped the collar off. Its fair to say we both downloaded in our pants and legged it home.
I agree Tyson is an animal and extremely volatile. But... I do not want to seem like I am always opposed to your comments Boxhead but I have to disagree with one of your points. Losing a child has nothing whatsoever to do with what happens in the boxing ring. It is a horrible accident and I can not relate it to what Tyson has done in his career. Be it good or bad.
Sorry moral gaurdians, I dont wish it on the man. However I do think with his past discretions there is a degree of karma involved, you cant be a grub and ruin other peoples lives forever eventually what goes around comes around.
LOL at "moral gaurdians"... Whose life did Tyson ruin ?? Was it Holyfields ? Because I would let anyone bite of a bit of my ear for a couple of millions.
Are you kidding? The guy had been arrested over 30 times before he was 15, he was convicted of rape and served 3 of a 6 year sentence in prison. Possession of narcotics. Have a look at his criminal record. I dare say the women he raped would probably be feeling on top of the world? You are kidding, the bloke is a grub and my point was it is a stroke of karma. I stand by that statement. I wonder how Tyson would feel if his daughter was raped????
I must have had too many bourbons last night cause I completely forgot about the rape this morning. I was just thinking about his boxing opponents. Are you sure he committed the rape. He never plead guilty and he wouldn't be the first person jailed for something they didn't do. Rape cases are often very hard to prove beyond reasonable doubt.
How many sports stars in the world have been taken to court for rape cases in the last 20 years ?? If the NRL is any measure this year then a fair few. There has been NFL players, NBA players, Soccer players, Rugby League players, boxers and thats all I can think off on the top of me head in 10 seconds. Very few if any get charged cause usually the sexual act is consensual. From all we know Tyson might only be guilty of being a dumb shit. It might be the only reason he was charged.
"What really happened, according to Tyson's lawyer, was that at the hotel "they talked and engaged in foreplay and in consensual sex. But then she gets offended. ... He rolls over and wants to get some sleep. Suddenly she realizes she has been treated like a one-night stand and her dignity is offended. ... She becomes embarrassed and humiliated by her own conduct."
Tyson never plead guilty. He was convicted because of his character and was an made an example of to prevent possible future "Date rapes".
Here is some info in which states Tyson might not have committed the crime.
Are we now debating whether or not the man is a criminal, thats a steep him. Tyson is a grub. The 35 crimes must be all a mistake? Or maybe I had too many Peronis last night!
No, there is no debate about his criminal past before he turned the age of 15. The debate is about the rape case and your extraordinary attempt to relate it to his daughters death.
Named after the original booze fuelled atrocity, this is the blog for the sports fan sick of the drivel in the papers. We'll be putting out some different opinions that you won't read in the Tele because we actually like sports and don't take them too seriously, unlike most sports journos.
Possibly THE maddest moment in sporting history by THE maddest bastard in sporting history
ReplyDeleteWhich moment was THE maddest moment the first bite or the second one there were 2 nibbles of Holyfield's lug

I guess now if Kobe Bryant has any kids then he should keep a close on them cause more then likely one will die in the not too distant future.
