NRL game called off?
I have heard a rumour that if K Hunt is quarantined, as expected, with the swine flu that the whole Broncos side may be also quarantined for up to 72 hours meaning they wouldn't be able to play this Friday night against the Dogs. What is the fair course of action here? Does the NRL call this game a draw and award each side 1 point? I would be in favour of a Wednesday night game as a catch up like the old Panasonic and Amco Cup days. Thoughts?

I'm a fan of Wed night games and would have the Panasonic Cup back in a flash. We'll hear the normal whinging that we play too many games etc, but lets face it, it would bring in more gate takings for clubs as well as be another bargaining point for a juicier tv deal when it comes up for review again. Teams can blood younger players in these games too if need be, as they did anyway back in the 80s
ReplyDeleteWhat a joke, everyone will eventually get the swine flu, just let them all get it and get it over with. K Hunt has been mingling with fellow players, trainers, coaching staff, fans ect from the Maroons who will all go back to their clubs. Locking them up for 72 hours isnt the answer. Whoever has the flu doesnt play the rest let them go!
ReplyDeleteI also loved the Panasonic Cup during the 80's (probably due to Balmain's success) and reckon mid-week games are great. I agree with Boxhead with the swine flu. Just quarantine the infected player. If they start quarantining people associated with a player, where do you stop?? Does the NSW team need to be quarantined because of contact with Hunt? Or crowd seated within 50m of him?
ReplyDeleteI would be very surprised if they called the game off, especially with the Channel 9 deal.
ReplyDeletePenrith are sending all juniors with colds home at the moment due to the swine flu debacle. If you have a cold or flu like symptoms then you go straight to the doc..simple as that. Not sure what they are doing with firsts at moment but Luke and Jenno aren't training anyway due to their injuries. Haven't seen them in the gym, so i guess they are staying at home.
I think they should just give everyone that Tamiflu injection and get on with it.
Parramatta are sending all players with flu like symptoms from any grade straight to the docs also and are not able to train with the team. I dont know what other options they have? The NRL will not care about the Channel 9 deal when they make a serious decision like this however Channel 9 will probably have a case if they was compensation. The Broncos have a very good case to have the game postponed regardless of whether Karmichaels test result comes back positive or negative because the players have not been able to train all week and will not be able to until his test comes back negative if and when that happens, it was supposed to be Wednesday at 11am.
ReplyDeletei dont understand the hysteria about a flu- its not going to kill anyone in Australia that wasn'y heavily struggling anyway.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with rob and pawd- i LOVED the old panasonic cup- nothing better than a randon midweek game- cut the number of NRL rounds by 4 and play the cup!!!
Sorry guys i was in the womb when Amco Cup was going on, sadly us 22 year olds didnt see the glory days. But love the idea of having a mid week game. Just another night to watch sport!
ReplyDeleteSurprise, Surprise !?!? The game is going ahead even though Hunt has tested positive to swine flu.
ReplyDelete"We accept that this has been a major disruption to the Broncos preparation but illness and injury can affect any preparation at times.
The disruptions around rescheduling the match would also be significant to the preparation of the other team, to the venue, to the fans, government infrastructure, the sponsors and the broadcaster"
NRL Chief Operating Officer, Mr Graham Annesley
It seems the NRL thinks its easy to leave players out...but its not easy to change a game.
Broncos will either come out on fire wanting to shove it up the NRL or will get trounced.
ReplyDeleteIt was a logistical decision which makes sense, however I still dont think it is fair game for the Broncos who had no choice but to quarantine players and inturn have not had any preperation what so ever apart from a ball session this morning. If the decision to quarantine the players was an internal club decision then Id have a different opinion, I think the break may do the Broncos some good. I hope they trounce the Buldogs and rub the NRL's noses in it. I am not totally convinced about the Dogs title credentials this season as yet, need to see them beat some quality teams.
ReplyDeleteMULTI BET - ROUND 14
ReplyDeleteKnights - +12.5
Titans - Win
Manly - Win
Storm/Storm - Halftime/Fulltime Double
Raiders - Win
Odds = $8.50
I think this could potentially be a round with a few upsets. Titans should win, as should Manly against a weakened Penrith without Jennings and Lewis. Canberra should flog the Sharks if they are serious about making any sort of charge towards the Top 8. Knights are cruising along nicely and even without Gidley are proven to win this season as they did a few weeks ago without him, Warriors are playing like busteds take Knights with 12.5 start. Storm are on fire Souths are not, they should easily lead at halftime and fulltime.
Anyone else have any tips for this weekend?
