Congrats must go out to 'Aussie' Kim this week who ridiculously won the US Open after only a month back from retirement and motherhood duties. She actually resembles a human being these days too and looks reasonably happy and settled (wouldn't you after breaking up with that turd Lleyton Hewitt).
It doesnt say a lot for the current state of women's tennis though does it. In fact it's a joke really. Almost as big a joke as the monkey's meltdown in the semi at the linesman. I can't blame the little Asian one for running scared to the ref. I personally, would have shat my pants whilst running out of the stadium Forrest Gump style if that BBA (Big Black Animal) was threatening me from 5 yards. Reminded me of Sigourney Weaver in Gorilla's in the Mist a bit
serena should not have treated the linesman the way she did but the umps are way too sensitive - there is no way serena would have reacted like that had it happened on the 2nd point of the game in the first round - surely they need to take into account the situation of the game. did anyone really think she was going to shove a tennis ball down her throat, they were just words, sticks and stones apparently. i would have shat my pants closed my eyes and preyed for it to be over also but if you want to be an ump stand by your decision dont run off to the chair saying she said nasty words to me
ReplyDeleteSorry Frank I must disagree. You can't have players in any sport abusing officials. If that is condoned because it was in the heat of the moment, whats to stop her actually using violence next time if the chips are down. "Sorry I threw my racket at you but I was frustrated". Officials have a hard enough job without players giving them a serve and threatening them. You are starting to see it in rugby league with groups of players crowding the refs and giving it to them if they don't like the call. It is a spoilt brats attitude and they just have to learn to be mad at themselves of shut their mouths and get on with the game. Serena should have played better and not left it to a foot fault to hand her opponent the game.
ReplyDeleteExactly. She/it's a spoilt brat and finally got shown up of her true 'colours'.
ReplyDeleteIt pisses me off when these tennis players question the refs call and argue for what seems like half an hour on a simple line call. Surely the ref should have a buzzer that immediately gives them an electric shock or the like putting that said player back in their box. That'll teach em!
Would she have argued like that if it was the first point in the match? No. It was a childish act and she embarrassed herself. Good on the line judge for bringing about a penalty against Williams, too many officials take athlete abuse and rubbish just because they dont was to lose.
ReplyDeleteLook at both the NRL, EPL they are rife with players abusing referees and referees putting up with the rubbish. I agree with players who question calls which are dodgy or inconsistent however when it is over and over and over it becomes frustrating.
I was also dissapointed in Carty after the Broncos game which were beat by a better side go on and blame the refs. Simply we conceded 40 points, we would have won the game if Prince and Bailey both didnt throw intercepts in the final 10 minutes of the game. I wonder whether the players copped the same ripping as the officials did?
Athletes carry on like brats and its fucking annoying, shut your traps and get on with the game. If your getting beat its because you are not good enough, cop it on the chin and quit with the excuses!
was not trying to condone what she did, she clearly went over the top, i was more having a go at umpires/refs in general- i just think refs/umpires are a protected species, and they are usually arrogant people with small mans syndrome who enjoy having power over the athletes. i dont like it when they think the game/sport is about them. as i said before noone actually thought she was going to shove a tennis ball down her throat and the emotion was clearly going to be a little higher when you get foot faulted to bring up match point. i would have had more respect for the linesman if she had have sat there, stood by her decision, realised that in the context of the game it was a big call, and did not run off to the chair and 'dob'. i also think the 10000 fine is disgraceful she should have been fined at least 6 figures
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that a lot of officials have little man syndrome, especially in the NRL and AFL where it is rife with the tools. If they do their job and dont draw attention to themselves I am happy with their effort as it is a hard job. If they try to be bigger than the game like Shane Hayne and Jason Robinson then they deserve to get abused!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the referees have attitudes and can be little terds and I get frustrated with them all the time. But when I was playing League it was always yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir. The ref never changed a decision.
ReplyDeletePlayers and coaches need to better identify instances when they can manipulate referees and when they cannot. Not just blow their tops because that gets you nowhere. Get on their side and you will get your fair share of the 50/50 calls.
I cant believe we are debating the Williams issue, she carried on like a spoilt brat and should have had half her tournament prize money donated to charity or into the development of tennis umpires.
