Grub shouldn't win!
Jonathon Thurston, aka "The Grub" should not win the Dally M tonight in what would be a blight on the game. As I have stated previously, he is the GOLDEN BOY of the NRL and gets points a lot of the time unwarranted. I will admit he was very good up until the end of origin. Post origin he has been quite ordinary and should not have polled pretty much any or many points. He should have also been suspended for that dog act kick on Williams in origin game 3 which would have cost him Dally M points aswell. But because the sun shines out of his ass he got off the charge lightly and didnt lose any points. I would very much like anyone else to win tonight, Hayne, Marshall, Gidley, Soward but no doubt they will all be pipped, and we will all scratch our heads when Thurston polls points that he doesnt deserve and wins the medal.

I've written about this before, but the points system game by game lends itself to "big-name" players winning the Dally M year after year. I would be surprised if the judges do any real analysis of the stats and generally rush their selections in to meet a deadline. Often, there will be a clear man of the match then a lazy judge will go"oh, fuck it, give Thurston two points...." even if he didn't really play that well.
ReplyDeleteGet the coaches to vote at the end of the year for the player of the year, rather than game by game, then Thurston wouldn't be in the top 10- Hayen would win anf Soward would be up there.
I love that shit, in my opinion he shouldnt win, he is a grub correct but put simply he doesnt deserve the award because they rant and rave at the start of every season about how the Cowboys will win the competition based on Thurston and Bowen and I recon they are both over rated, Aaron Payne is the linchpin in that side and its funny after he was injured the Cowboys finals run ended with a thud.
ReplyDeleteIll try and have a crack at the order I think they will finish: Hayne / Soward / Watmough / Kimmorley are my top 4 I cant split them. Notable mentions: Farah and Nathan Friend I think will poll strongly.
Spot on Deevs its not about the man of the match votes its about the 1 and 2 point tail votes. Soward should win it, but the judges are fucked, let the coaches vote it and they just cant vote on their own team.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Hayne on a well deserved victory. Soward cost himself with a putrif few games at the end of the year also almost costing the Dragons the MP. Anyway, I cant believe The Turd still got second place and only lost by a single MOTM in the end. Fucking annoys me, but glad he didnt get it anyway as no one remembers who came second
