Craig Bellamy should not be coaching NSW !!!

This bitter man should not be the coach of NSW in this years State of Origin because :

(1) He will have 7 or 8 players in the QLD team. Do you think he is going to give away his secrets on how to shut down his superstars and risk revealing valuable information that will derail the Storms season. No chance...he won't be coaching the NSW team to their full potential. Does Mal Meninga has anything holding him back ?? Nope.

(2) Wasn't he going to coach QLD in 2006 ?? He is a New South Welshman who wasn the leading candidate to take over Queensland job until Artie Beetson stepped in. So he didn't get the coaching job he wanted...then why not just take the second option...the NSW job. Coaching NSW should be your number 1 priority, if you went for the QLD job then you should not be given a chance to coach NSW.

(3) He is a whinning little bitch. He is like the spoilt kid that cries when he doesn't get ice cream for desert. He shows passion at times but as soon as something goes wrong he goes nuts. He thinks that he is bigger then the game. Why do you think his own players call him Bellyache !! Has any other coach been fined $50k in one hit by the NRL ??

(4) I am not completely convinced he is that good of a coach. He was under Bennet for a long period of time which has to help but I think he has inhereted a pretty decent team. I am confident Slater, Inglis, Folau, Smith and Johnson would be the players they are today with or without Bellamy. If I was coaching these guys we could play touch footy every session for training and we would win more games then we lose during an NRL season. Ill be interested to see how he goes when these players start getting older or move on.

(5) There is a better candidate for the job. John Cartwright. True, honest and loyal bloke who seems to be able to relate to his players extremely well and bring out the best in them. When I look at the Gold Coast team I don't see that much talent (except for Prince and Campbell) but the Titans are competitive week in and week out and are currently equal second on points. He also seemed to do very well coaching the City team with limited preperation. He should be NSW coach !!

Opinions ??

  1. Im a Titans fan and agree that John Cartwright would do a great job. Im not sure whether Carty has the tactics to win big games like Bellamy does, the Gold Coast rely heavily on the back of Scott Prince and his genius rather than much structure. Bellamy has built this team up from the ground at the Storm and it seems like you just dont like the guy. I can take or leave the Storm and Bellamy. The Storm have been the best team over the last 3 years and have failed at the final hurdle on 2 occasions. When you look at the 17 QLD will name up against our best, I dont think its rocket science to see who has more skill, experience and are overall better players. I dont think it matters who is coaching the side the QLD should win the series. It is similar to the period where NSW were fielding teams with the likes of: Kennedy, Fittler, Johns, Gasnier, Buderus, Gidley. The current QLD team may be the best Origin team in history.

  2. He might have the personality of a wet sponge but I agree with Boxhead, the guy can coach George. He has made some of those super stars better players under his tenure as coach and is tactically one the best coaches going around. Yes, he can be a spoilt brat at times but so can most coaches to tell you the truth.
Cartwright is a possibilty but not for a few years yet. Let him take the Coast to the top 4 and challenge for a premiership before we throw him in at the deep end. NSW should try and convince Wayne Bennett assist Bellamy at Origin level. That would give us an insight into the QLD players and a different way to attack the game and series.

  3. I agree with George. This jerk carries on worse than a my two year in the box when a decision goes against him, and he has been found to have lost more big games than most, none bigger than last years drubbing in the GF. All Origins are big games, and he will continue to be found wanting this year i believe. You cant use the excuse that QLD are just better than us on paper either, although I'm sure he will when we lose a record 4th series in a row. NSW were continually better on paper through the 80's yet lost series after series to the pride and passion of the yokels up north. We need to base this years series on that passion, as skill just aint going to see us through I'm afraid

  4. So one minute you are going to criticise the guy for blowing up in the box and then going to say that we need pride and passion to win the series this year? Bellamy will blow up and he has plenty of passion. Bellamy is a big game coach, remember its easy to criticise coaches for loosing big games, but you dont get to big games without good coaches. I think we can win this years series as long as we select the form players not ones who have failed us over the previous 3 series. I think it is acceptable to think that QLD will be very difficult to defeat, its easy for us to talk it up and play down how good of a team they have but QLD have the runs on the board. People have short memories, it was Mal Meninga who was on the coaching fry pan after QLD lost game I in 2005 and everyone has called for his head, people are now bandying his name around for the Australian coaching job. The difference is that Meninga got the team he wanted, will Bellamy get the same?

  5. There is a difference between passion and pride and chucking a hissy fit in the box. The only time he gets pissed off in the box is when he disagrees with the ref's decision or when his players bomb a try. That seems to happen about 20 times a game. Shut up and get over it Bellamy!

Bellamy is not a big game coach. How come he has only won one grand final in 3 attempts with the team he had ??

Natural ability can only take you so far and his players are the most naturally talented football team on the planet over the last 3-4 years. You need the right coaching and direction in the business end of the season otherwise it doesn't matter how many regular season games you have won. You are still a loser.

It is the selectors job to pick the team they think is the best for the game at hand. If it was upto the coaches then get rid of the selectors all together. But this then leaves the problem of having a biased team - Bellamy has publicly stated that he hasn't got some players he wanted but in the same breathe he said that he was surprised how good some of the other players he got fitted in. You need the selectors to keep the balance and the coach should have the final say only on his halves (the most important area of the team)...that is all !!! If the selectors aren't picking the right players..then get rid of them and get people in who will. They should be accountable also.

  6. Meninga was on the frying pan after game 1 in 05 yes and his players stood up for him and have won just about everything since. The same cant be said for sook Bellamy. Bellamy also picked a player he wanted over the selectors in a game last year (Steve Turner) and his pick was completely bamboozled and embarrassed by a rampant Greg Inglis on that particular night. As a consequence, Turner will never play origin again, and Bellamy probably wont get to pick his 'favourites' from melbourne again (Turner, the ever overrated Brett White etc).

Bellamy is NOT a big game coach, and as you state, has the won the games TO get to the big games, but generally cant win them once he/his team get there in the NRL. To coach Origin, there are no games leading up to the big games, they are ALL big games.

As for carrying on like he does in the box and the passion statement, then my 2 year old chucking a fit if I take a lolly off her is showing plenty of passion.

Now that I have bagged Bellamy into the ground, I will eat my hat as NSW go on to record a resounding Origin success you watch. Being a Blues fan, I actually hope I do!

  7. NSW selectors obviously have done a great job over the last 3 years. Bellamy lost a Grand Final in 06 when Webke and Lockyer went on a frenzy, Bennett has never lost a GF. In 07 they win in a canter. In 09 they were no chance with the best player in the game in Cam Smith out suspended. Its not poor coaching that cost them those Grand Finals.
