I think now is a good time to debate the biggest grubs in Rugby League history. Below is my starting 13, let me know your thoughts.
1. Matthew Ridge-NZ, eye gouging tool
2. John Hopoate, CAPTAIN-Ol stink fist loved to stick his fingers up peoples dates
3. Justin Hodges-Pest, cheap shot merchant
4. Greg Bird-Who glasses anyone, was dirty on the field aswell
5. Wendell Sailor-Amusing fella but very grubby. Always puts 2 cents in and continually annoys opposition players
6. Terry Lamb-Made Ellery Handley disappear from the field in the 1988 grand final with a very low act in backplay.
7. Steve Linnane-Almost pulled Greg Alexanders eye out with a huge gouge
8. Peter Kelly-Love the bloke but played in a grubby time and excelled
9. Cameron Smith-Mr nuisance. Always puts the sly knee in and loves trying to rip peoples arms off
10. Les Boyd-King of the eye gouge and stiff arm, ruined his own career breaking Daryl Brohmans jaw. Still hasn't shut Daryl up though
11. Rod Reddy-Most tackles he made involved a knee, stiff arm or eye gouge
12. Luke O'Donnell-Loves a brain snap and it usually involves a cheap elbow or forearm
13. Paul Gallen-Nothing needs to be said

Brenden Tuuta....Grubby NZer
ReplyDeletewhat a great list and at last an admissin frm pawd that linnane is a first class grub
ReplyDeleteI am amazed at how much I agree with your list PAWD. I have never heard of Steve Linnane though, I may have to do my research. I thought Mark Geyer might get a run in this team but it would be hard for him to get a start. Another grub that could get a spot on my bench would have to be Michael Hancock from the broncos. His real nickname is actually "grub" check below.
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Hancock_(rugby_league)
Danny Williams who king hit Mark O'Neill and claimed post-traumatic amnesia before getting 18 weeks is another highly rated grub who could sit on the bench. This guy is used to starting from the bench anyway, he has the record for most games starting as an interchange. Grubosauras Rex !!
What about Gordan Tallis ??
Have a look at the 1987 rugby league season George. It was Saints Vs Penrith about 1/2 way through I think and he got 20 weeks for a massive gouge that almost blinded Alexander. Probably deserved it though.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Billy Slater doesnt get mentioned here or in the media for being one of the biggest grubs on the planet. The stomping on a players head a few years back following a 10 week suspension for a ridiculously cowardly spear tackle, followed by the continually diving in with the knees atrocities of last season are enough to be nominated surely??! This is before even getting into his grubby, flea like personality. Fucking germ
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Rossco on Slater. He trod on John Skandalis's face and then ran and hid behind his forwards to avoid a belting. Some that would have almost made Pawd's list are: Andrew Gee, Tommy Raudonikus and....... Not a dirty player but a grub nonetheless LEO DYNEVOR!!!
ReplyDeleteDarren Center from the Wests Tigers, Tyron Smith who played for anyone who would sign him. I cant believe Cam Smith got a run in the Grub 13, thats a discrace! Michael Hancock and Andrew Gee were unlucky. Current players Scott Logan from the Raiders is a bitch and a king for a late hit or dog shot, Jeremy Smith can throw an elbow and a late hit. Paul Gallen should be captain coach. Craig Young and Dean Young are the Father / Son version of sperm that should have landed on their mothers backs. Absolute grubs. Geoff Toovey and Brett Finch are both grubs.
ReplyDeletegreat calls on hancock and gee. sub them in for sailor and o'donnell
ReplyDeleteCam Smith is one of the biggest whinging, niggling bitches in the league so I totally stand by my statement.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we can sub in Hancock and Gee. O'Donnell is a super grub, though Gee was worse.
Surely Grub Gower must get a spot on the bench at least. He almost paved the way for modern day grubs Watmough, Brett Stewart and co.
ReplyDeleteI feel old...George doesnt know who Linnane is!!!!
ReplyDeleteIm with PAWD on Cameron Smith. He is constantly complaining about everything and he loves the dirty stuff in the tackles (elbow, forearms, chicken wings).
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last time you saw him smile ?? He constantly looks angry and thats the way he plays the game. Skilful - yes !! Grub - Hell yes !!
Checked up on this Linnane bloke. Yep he is a grub. Your can't gauge anyone and especially not Brandy - Now im looking into this Reddy guy. I know who his sons are but got nothing on him.
Have you seen C Smith's mrs?? Absolute buzzard. No wonder he always looks so miserable. Plus he is only about 25 but looks older than his coach
ReplyDeleteHave a look at the 1977 grand final and replay George. Every tackle from Reddy involved knees or punches.
ReplyDeleteRoscoe the wife comment is outstanding his wife looks like a swamp donkey. I still think he is a good player gives no more niggle than the next bloke.
ReplyDeleteDarren Senter is a MASSIVE grub. I had an incident with him at the infamous Club Troppo one night a few years back. When I mentioned his glass jaw that he broke on about 3 occasions, he quickly shut up and retreated....thank God!!
