Do Not Disturb between 9am and 5pm!

This week commences the great sporting cycle (once every 4 years) where sleep goes completely out of the window for a month as The Ashes is played on English soil. I for one will be readying my desk at work George Costanza style to catch up on some zzz's between 9-5 Monday to Friday whilst the cricket and to a lesser extent The Tour de France takes over our screens during the nocturnal hours of the Aussie winter.

Can anyone confirm (or hopefully deny) the putrid rumours doing the rounds that Damien Martyn and Stuart MacGoo will be joining Simon Hill as 'expert' commentators in place of the ever amusing and entertaining Mo Matthews and Deano Jones on this year's SBS coverage?? Just when you would start nodding off to sleep after midnight, on would come one of these clowns to give an insightful yet amusing take on the current state of play during the luncheon, tea and drinks break intervals to keep the mind refreshed for another session of cricket watching spent on the couch in the wee hours of the morn. Unfortunately MacGoo and Martyn will have me piffing an empty stubbie at my tv before lunch on day one Wednesday night!!

  1. Can't wait for the Ashes, I hope the Aussies are on their game and don't get ambushed like last tour over there. Ponting needs to use his brain both in the field and whilst batting. Be prepared to think outside the square like the Taylor's and Waugh's did during their tenures as captains. England will be more competitive than they are being given credit especially if Peterson and Flintoff can somehow play the entire series. I think I will battle to be up at during the night if those 3 BORING humans are commentating. I might put it on mute and watch the paint dry on the walls, it would be a bigger thrill than listening to their drivel!

  2. Should be a very good series. I think the Aussies are in for a fight, Ponting and Clarke have never really fired in England and unless Lee's effort in the tour game wasn't a fluke, our bowling attack has no form over there whatsoever.

  3. Bring back Kerry O'Keefe and the bloke on SBS who looks like he is homeless? He sometimes comments on the soccer? Damo? That should keep you awake.

Not sure what to make of this series. Aussies have the form I guess when you compare over the last year with England struggling against the West Indies and the Aussies slipping a little I guess but overcoming South Africa in the end. I think if these 2 English spinners are what the pommy media are making them out to be then we will struggle, the Aussies struggled in India against the spin which was to be expected, however we also struggled against Paul Harris who is a part time spinner and would be lucky to get a run for Penrith Colts. If the spinners fire and the decks over there are condusive to spin I think we may be in trouble. I think there will be alot of drawn tests. Maybe a 2-1 or 1-1 maybe even 1-0 series result.
