Get with the times
After watching the tripe dished up to the Aussies last night in the Ashes, it is about time they get with the times and use available technology. Throughout this test match Australia has been reamed by the umpires and cheating English with terrible decisions going against them. Pretty much every sport that matters can use tv replays or video refs to help in the decision making process, why not cricket? It is not as if it is a fast paced sport! Close decisions on runouts and stumpings are already referred to the 3rd umpire, we need to use this for close catches aswell. LBW's should remain at the discretion of the umpires as they normally even themselves out over the course of a game, but any close to the ground catch should be referred so cheats like Andrew Strauss get shown up(Strauss claimed a catch off Hughes in the 2nd innings that bounced). With so much money involved in cricket these days you hate to see a match decided with a few poor decisions. Hopefully the Aussies pull off a remarkable win tonight and stick it up those Pommy wankers. I still think England will get the cash unfortunately on a 5th day pitch and the tail end imminent.

Strauss is a deadset cheat. I gave him the benefit of the doubt after the time wasting antics in Cardiff, but this catch takes the cake. Like Graham Smith and even Ponting in recent times, he should have himself referred the catch to the video. But he did not even contemplate it even though it clearly touched the ground prior to him 'catching' the ball.
ReplyDeleteIt will be outstanding television viewing if they choke from this position and allow a remarkable Aussie victory tonight. If we can see off Flintoff through the new ball, then we're a massive chance...
If we get through the new ball we win. Get another 100 odd runs with Clarke and Haddin at the crease and needing only 120 odd with 4 wickets in hand we should cruise home. I would love to stick it up those wankers. It clearly bounced and Strauss clearly cheated. Go to a park and get someone to throw the ball and catch it on a halfvolley immediately after a bounce, the feeling is totally different to when it is caught on the full. The ball is travelling in 2 different directions. For the 3rd umpire not to intervene and correct the call was a discrace, if Strauss isnt hauled over the coals after this Test match it is also a discrace. How could he have thought it was a good idea? Cameras everywhere. Dope. Go the Aussies get on them at $3.50.
ReplyDeletei was about to get on and post that Strauss is a cheat but I think Pawd and Rossco have summed it up well.
ReplyDeleteHowever, let me reiterate-
I HATE STRAUSS THE CHEATING POMMY CUNT
Unfortunately Flintoff was brilliant and we couldnt see him out. I think Johnson should certainly start fully concentrating on being an allrounder and not our main spearhead. He is a very competant batsman and not a leader of the attack. Bring in Clark or Lee and get rid of Hauritz. Siddle/Lee and Hilf to open with Johnson and Clark/Siddle 1st change. Part time spinners Clark and North can do that job as well as Hauritz. I think Australia will do very well to simply draw this series now and lose lose 2 or 3-1. The Poms have their tails up and started bowling well, we are in trouble.
ReplyDeleteJohnson is NOT an opening bowler. All his great spells (ie WACA last year) were with an aging ball getting some reverse swing. He doesn't hold the seem up at all, rendering him useless as an opener. He can cut it around at first change, so in this instance I would be opening up with Sids/Clark/Lee and Hilfenhaus. We do probably need to make one change in the bowling, but it aint going to be Johnson unfortunately for maybe Siddle who has done nothing wrong really. If they go with Johnson again, they HAVE to pick a Clark or even McDonald to simply tie up an end, because even when Johnson is taking wickets, he leaks a lot of runs. McDonald did a job in South Africa, and although very nude as a cricketer, ties up an end allowing the more 'wayward' bowlers to let rip. This tour game will be one of the most important 'practice' matches in Australia's recent history
ReplyDeleteI agree Roscoe, Clark and Hilfenhaus would have the new ball if I was captaining. I think there is a need or definately a presumption that speed takes wickets. When Aktar and Lee first jumped on the scene and were taking wickets it became a bit of a fad. I think the legacy still lingers with Johnson opening the bowling. I like the idea that batsman make the running of the play and bowling sides put the ball in the right places and wait for an error. Johnson and even Siddle to a degree look to force the issue and have limited patience when it comes to bowling to a plan and or bowling in partnerships. I would love to see our mindset change because in both Test Matches we have given away a heap of cheap runs, well over 200 runs worth, and we lost the second test by just over 100 runs.
