Long Time Coming

It has been a very very very long time coming but Mark Webber finally got his 1st F1 win overnight in the German Grand Prix. After 130 starts and many non finishes he finally cracked it, against the odds. After starting on Pole position ,also for the 1st time, Webber was given a drive through penalty on the very 1st corner of the race for making contact with another driver. This would normally mean the end for Webber in years gone past and probably a 8-10th place finish. This year is different with Red Bull finally having a fast car and Webber finally getting some luck to go with his above average driving ability. After his drive through penalty, and some poor pit work from the Braun race team, Webber blitzed the field with superior pace and cruised to an easy victory. In a very Aussie way of celebrating he let go with many an "F" Bomb in pure jubilation and also managed to pour his entire magnum of champagne on himself. Good on you Mark being our 1st F1 race winner since 1981 and hopefully better things to come now the monkey is off your back.

    One of the great celebrations of alltime. Well worth a listen to if/when on the news tonight. Sounded very much like a 5 y.o. kid who just stole a bag of lollies from the corner shop shouting and giggling down the street at what he had just achieved. Very funny

    A fantastic win by one of our most under-rated sportsmen!!!!! Previously he's been let down by inferior teams and cars, now he can finally show his true talent. Has also now jumped his team mate Sebastien Vettel to 3rd in the driver's championship, an excellent effort considering Vettel is considered the next Schumacher, and Ferrari and McLaren are both looking to sign him up.
    As pawd said, the 1st Aussie to win since Alan Jones in 1981, although he could never emulate AJ in the booze stakes!!!!

    shows that you cant win anything without the right car. is he that much better a driver than previous years? same with jensen button- he's been at it for years, now all of a sudden he's winning the comp.

    but still, good to see- webber seems like a good bloke

    I like Robs story of when Webber was winning a GP a few years back and was crook as a dog. Managed to lose it by spewing in his own helmet. Great Aussieness there.

    Deevs the car is about 75% of the reason a driver wins or loses. As you said Jenson Button suddenly wins everything yet he's probably driving just as well as before. On the other hand Lewis Hamilton is struggling this year even though he won the championship last year.
    The story Pawd refers to and Roscoe posted the clip of the Japanese GP in 2007. Webber was crook as a dog, spewed in his helmet repeatedly yet was running second and catching Lewis Hamilton in the pissing down rain, and in an uncompetitive car. Out comes the safety car and Vettel who wasn't his team mate at the time, ran up Webber's arse and took them both out of 2nd and 3rd!!!
    Just another bad luck story for Mark Webber, hopefully he's turned the corner
